Saying Goodbye to the Space that Held Us

After nearly 15 years at 2314 University Avenue, we gathered one last time to honor the office that has held our work, relationships, growth, and impact all these years, as we prepare to end our lease and begin our next chapter co-working at The Coven in Northeast Minneapolis.

Nexus’ walls have witnessed leadership journeys, hard conversations, breakthroughs, laughter, and deep community. We have convened. We have set the table. We have helped each other belong. We believe it matters to pause and say thank you.

On March 11, our team gathered at the nearly empty St. Paul office one last time for a joyful and heartfelt afternoon.

  • We started with a delicious lunch—one of many office meals from K’s Revolutionary Catering.
  • Then our guest, Elder Atum Azzahir, led a moving and bittersweet ritual with our CEO Repa Mekha to help us close our time in this space and honor the ancestors who led us to this work.
  • We were treated to performances by guests Thomasina Petrus and Kashimana Ahua, who finished with their song Don’t Buy the Lie (None of Us are Free ‘Til All of Us are Free)
  • Nexus family, board and advisory committee members, and longtime friends joined us virtually to witness our celebration. We were honored to hear North Star Alum Tia Williams and BCLI Alum Yariet Montes share stories of their time in our programs!
  • We ended with a collective toast to this chapter as we step into what’s next for Nexus!
