The Open Road Fund (ORF) will reopen Juneteenth (June 19), 2026, for its fourth grantmaking year! Through direct investment in descendants of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, ORF is shifting access to resources to support intergenerational wealth building and allow individuals and families to shape their futures on their own terms. Since 2023, we have distributed $14.95 million to 298 recipients and counting across Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
To understand the impacts of these $50,000 gifts, Nexus has partnered with Research in Action to follow 50 individuals over eight years, hearing directly from them as to how they used the gift, how it affected their sense of stability and possibility, and what supports or barriers shaped their ORF journey.
