Not only is Minnesota home to the most co-ops in the country, but the Twin Cities is home to the most real estate co-ops in a metro!
In September, our LOCAL Fund* grantee, East Side Community Investment Cooperative (ESCIC), joined the movement by purchasing its first property. 960 Payne Avenue is a mixed-use building home to longterm tenants on the second floor and ready to welcome a new local business on the first floor.
This kind of community ownership allows neighbors to collectively prioritize local businesses and interests, and to keep the economic benefits of real estate circulating locally.
